Druid - Somerville, MA
There are a lot of dining opportunities in Inman Square, and if you blink for a second, you can easily miss The Druid.  The Druid is a small Irish pub next to 1369 Coffee House (which, we were informed, was why they do not serve coffee there).  The menu is pretty small (around 20 items), and only 3 options are vegetarian (turnip/carrot soup, field green salad, and a veggie burger).  I believe the...

Andale! - Boston, MA
Andale! is the fast food lunch version of Zocalo Cocina Mexicana, a Brighton Mexican restaurant specializing in “Oaxaca and Veracruz culinary traditions”.  Oaxaca and Veracruz are two of the southernmost states in Mexico, and are famous for their mole sauces, cheese, corn tortilla based foods, and mezcal liquor (sorry, Andale does not serve it during the lunch rush, much to my...

Cheese Sandwich META review II
The following sandwich places are not available in the Boston area, so I have posted driving directions to the nearest location in each review. Schlotzsky’s - Fresh Veggie Sandwich Driving Directions Schlotzsky’s motto is: “funny name, serious sandwich”, which offends me for two reasons.  First, Schlotzsky’s was founded by Don and Delores Dissman in Austin,...

Merry Cheesemas!
I was going to post a review of the spread of the food at my office Christmas party, but I thought that would be banal and potentially rude to the lovely people who organized it.  Nevertheless here is a picture of the stuffed shells, eggplant parmesan, and baked ziti that I ate with salad.  Notice how the grease just glistens from the flash of the cameraphone.  Well, that was an enjoyable meal,...

Bostonville Grille - Lynnfield, MA
I’d rather not discuss what poor choices I have made in the course of my life leading me to Lynnfield, MA, but let’s just say if you can avoid Lynnfield, you probably should.  That is unless you really love strip malls and chain restaurants, then give it a chance!  If you like eating at local restaurants and really love Chuck E. Cheese’s, then Bostonville Grille is the place for...

Chain Cheese Sandwich - META Review
I feel if I’m going to call my blog Cheese Sandwich, at some point I should review the various cheese sandwiches that are available in the Boston Area.  While many sandwich places serve cheese sandwiches, it would be unfair to compare a major sandwich chain to locally owned places.  So, this TWO PART meta-review will compare every major chain sandwich that I have had.  Part I contains chains...

Royal Palace Restaurant II - Boston, MA
Are you ever hungry at lunch time and all you want is cheap low quality food served in vast quantities?  Well Chinatown is the place for you!  There are plenty of terrible to average Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, and Royal Palace Restaurant II just happens to be one of them.  Before I begin my review, here is the review from the Boston Globe this year: Just about any positive restaurant cliche...

Bina Osteria and Trattoria - Boston, MA
Nearby the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown Crossing, there is a really trendy posh looking restaurant and trattoria that seems designed purely for inhabitants of the Ritz-Carlton.  BiNA Osteria is both a “European-style” shop as well as a restaurant.  I decided to try a sandwich from the “alimentari” (shop) portion of BiNA Osteria.  I was not surprised to find that the average...

Mike and Patty's - Boston, MA
Mike and Patty’s is a little hole in the wall sandwich place in Bay Village.  Unless you’re a resident or know where you’re going, it’s very easy to miss it.  This is yet another sandwich place that you have to take away your meal, as what little space that is available is usually filled by the patrons.  I have seen port-a-pottys that had more space than Mike and...

El Triunfo - South End, Boston, MA
This adventure began when a few work colleagues and I wanted to get some food from nearby JJ Foley’s in the South End.  We went in around peak dinner time and the 12 of us could not find a table.  After a few moments of drunken confusion, we ended up deciding on going to neighboring restaurant El Triunfo.  Then commenced a Fawlty Towers-esque evening of hilarity. First the menu - I took...

Chacarero - Boston, MA
I was introduced to Chacarero by a Swedish guy that I work with (let’s call him Shamon), and this restaurant exemplifies what cheesesandwich.org is all about.  I don’t know what cheesesandwich.com is about, but probably something to do with being obnoxious.  There are two Chacarero locations in the Downtown Crossing area, both within 5 minutes walk from the other.  Chacarero is the...

Andala Cafe - Cambridge, MA
Tonight I was in a rush and went to Andala Cafe in Central Square (in Cambridge).  Again, I am cheating in reviewing a place that I have been several times before, but we have to start somewhere, no?  Andala is a hard place to characterize.  While it is predominantly Mediterranean food, it also has your typical cafe-style croissants, bagels, scones, etc.  I enjoy getting the dinner plates here -...

163 Vietnamese Sandwich - BOSTON, MA
Technically, I am cheating on this first review.  I’ve been to 163 Vietnamese Sandwich several times before, primarily because it’s cheap, it’s quick, and it has great sandwiches and spring rolls.  They also sell bubble teas and shakes if you like that kind of thing (which I don’t).  They have over 20 flavors with and without bubbles.  Also available are teas and...

My First Cheese Sandwich
If you’ve accidentally stumbled upon this blog, then welcome!  This blog is devoted to the dining experiences of vegetarians (and by proxy, vegans, celiacs, and other finicky eaters).  Most restaurant reviews are done by meat eaters, and most celebrity chefs have utter disdain for vegetarians, so the perspective of the vegetarian is often ignored.  There are several websites for...
